5- What species, that you have seen, has made the most impression upon you?
Difficult to say, my favourite bird changes every day. Things that have recently impressed me have been the record numbers of migrating Little Auks and Pomarine Skua’s even though in flight they are impossible to capture well with a Coolpix. Of the birds that I found myself over the years the most memorable have been Sociable Plover, Red-necked Stint and Forster’s Tern.

6- Now that we know a bit more about you Pim, let's talk about the wonderful photographic technique of digiscoping. When did you learn your digiscoping technique and could you explain to us how you started?

What little technique I have, I learned from the internet and by trial and error, mostly error. When I started the birds-pix group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/birds-pix/) has been a great help, not just by showing some great photographic results but also as a way to find the personal websites of a few of the pioneers of the technique such as:
Laurence Poh (http://www.laurencepoh.com),
Stéphane  Moniotte (http://www.md.ucl.ac.be/peca/test/a.html)
and Andy Bright (http://www.digiscoped.com/Digiscopingindex.html).
All these have inspired and helped when I tried to take a few sharp pictures. Many of the earlier discussions were about the best camera settings on a Coolpix and some of those tips have been very usefull.

7– Could you describe the equipment you currently use?

I have only used a Swarovski ST80-HD with a handheld Coolpix 990 since September 2003 when I bought my first Coolpix. The settings I use are pretty standard as well, never above ISO100, aperture priority (which means that you get the fastest shutter-speed), depending on the circumstances I use auto focus as well as manual focus.

8- Are you satisfied with the quality of image you obtain with this equipment?

Well, for my purposes it is good enough. If I were more of a photographer I would look for a CCD with more pixels. Still, some of my pictures have been published in birding journals but that is also an achievement on the part of the photo-editors who manage to bring out the best in those pictures.
